Underground Artists

The Haatsville Project formed back in 2000. The original group consisted of 8 hungry emcees from Ghana, namely The Rapathologist, Myth, JP, Skrach, Ayton, John J, Soprano & Melvizill. Jayso joined the group in late 2001. Most of the group members hailed from a small suburb of Accra called 'Haatso' and it was this name that spawned the idea for the name of the group.

On the contrary to belief that the name 'Haatsville' came from a famous hotel in Haatso, the name actually is from the nickname given to Haatso by locals in the area.

'...haatsville is the nickname for haatso... everybody be calling haatso that, so we just took the name as a representative to were most of us was at...' - Myth.

Initially, the group began to record demos on JP's home pc and tried to get airplay on as many radio stations as possible. It was not until later 2001 when Ghana's Vibe FM radio presenter Bushke of 'Players Ball' finally played one of the haatsville demos that they boys began to find some support.

'...when bush played that shit!!?... I remember we was all up in the vibe cafe and david (rapathologist) just ripped baza to shreds, bush bumped the symphony and for me, that was hip-hop history for the group 'cos we all had that feeling like, yo we on our way nigga...' - JP.

After that, the group went on to record several jingles for the show. To date, The Haatsville Project have recorded one self promoted and distributed album called 'Chale..How Be!?'. Currently most of the 8 original members are spread out around the globe. The Rapathologist and his brother Ayton are in Atlanta, USA. Soprano sadly is not an active member of the group and Melvizill is currently attending University in London.
